Car history:
1968 CORVETTE L79 CONVERTIBLE PROJECT CAR ROLLING BODY ONLY. Paint Corvette Bronze (992), Interior Black Vinyl (STD), Mileage 23,547 (showing),
Rear End AM 9 28 67 (3.36:1) Positraction (327/350), Aluminum Overflow Tank #3016340, Dated 67 J
Highlights: Car appears to be an original 327/350, 4-speed Corvette convertible with power steering. The car is a rolling body, with NO engine or transmission. FRAME & BODY: The frame and left front area of the body have been hit, causing damage to the frame (just behind LF wheel assembly), and significant damage to the hood surround, left front fender, and lower front valance. The frame shows no rust at either end cap or kick up area on the frame rails, but does show a large blister in the middle of the left frame rail, just below the front part of the driver's seat (see photo). Gaps on both doors are affected by the front end of the car being unsecured, as the support bar on the front of the nose is missing. GM small-block hood has one hinge area blown out, and will need work. Hood and latch hardware are there, but the hood support prop is bent. Stainless trim around the front windshield is nice, but rust can be seen on the bottom of the right windshield pillar, beneath the glass. Both doors have nice fiberglass, but show some surface rust on the bottom front of the metal door frames. Driver s door has a rusty/blistered area on the rear door frame, just above the latch area. Passenger side door had a side view mirror mounted on it, so there are a few non-factory holes there. Both headlight assemblies are there, however both show damage to the headlight frames and bezels. Headlight doors seem fine. Windshield glass is shaded, and in very good condition; side glass is clear and also very nice. I cannot get the RH door glass to roll down. Rear clip and deck lid are in very good original condition. All deck lid hardware and latch mechanisms appear to be there, except the rods. A complete set (8) of 1969 side vent grille covers are included.
EXTERIOR: Front bumper brackets appear to be all there, as well as the left front bumperette, which is rusted. Rear bumpers are both in driver condition. Rear bumper brackets don't appear to be all there. Vents that mount on top of the rear deck have been chromed. Gas tank is new GM, with the GM part number sticker still affixed. Right front grille and turn signal assembly are there; center grille and left front grille and turn signal assembly are missing. Taillights and three (3) side marker lights are all there. There is one rear exhaust bezel, which is very pitted. Front grille brackets are not all there. Front grille lower chrome bezels are both there, but pitted, and one is missing studs. Front license plate mounting bracket is there, but bent. Radio antenna rear aluminum plate (under the car), is there. No radio antenna or mounting assembly. Rear license plate bezel is pitted. All four (4) wheels are 15 Corvette style rallies, but are not the AG coded 68 only wheels. Spare tire wheel (15 x 7), is there, but spare tire tub and lid are missing. There is no jack or jack handle. Rear end carrier is stamped AM, indicating a factory 3:70 rear end gears, for the high horsepower 327with posi. The bolts holding the rear leaf spring to the carrier are broken. I have a coffee can full of bolts, washers, clips, screws, nuts, etc., that go with car.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Engine compartment is not complete, due mainly to the front end damage. Radiator support and radiator are out of the car, but included. The radiator support has some-rust on the bottom, which I have tried to show in the pictures. Dated Harrison aluminum overflow tank is there, along with the front headlight harness and one horn. Wiper door assembly is there but needs work. Wiper door grille has been chromed and repaired. Windshield wiper assembly, wiper arms and wiper motor are all there, and in good shape. Power steering pump and engine wiring harness are there. Wiper washer bottle (black) is where it should be. RH inner fender has some damage; LH inner fender is damaged, and off the car (see parts pictures). Master cylinder looks dried up inside; master cylinder cover has been chromed. Steering column and steering box look fine. All front suspension pieces, including the power steering items, look OK.
INTERIOR: Interior is well worn, and should be replaced/restored. Seats, upper and lower dash pads and door panels are all there, and appear to be original. Inside windshield trim and rear view mirror assembly are all there. Sunvisors are there, but mis-matched (different material/fabric). Steering wheel is correct 67/68 plastic simulated wood grain. Correct 4-speed shifter plate and console housing are there. E-Brake assembly appears intact. The plastic E-Brake cover and one (1) side console plate cover is missing. Heater control mechanism is there. I cannot get the seats to move forward or backwards on the seat tracks. Radio is aftermarket, and the carpeting has been removed. The rear compartment frame is there, but missing the three (3) compartment doors. Soft top frame appears to be slightly bent, with the front top bow showing rust-through. All gauges are there, but need restored. Tachometer shows a 6000 RPM redline (correct for high horsepower small block).
OVERALL ASSESSMENT: I m selling the car because I have too many projects right now. This car has obviously been in an accident, and will need the frame straightened, numerous fiberglass work done on the body, and a new front clip. The car has been exposed to the elements, for who knows how long? It does appear to be an original high-horse small block chrome bumper Corvette convertible; and that has to be worth something. Car is located about 30 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio. I will be more than happy to help the new owner load the car and parts, or work with your shipper as best I can. If needed, I can store the car for 30 days, and maybe longer, once the car is paid for. I have a clear (not salvage), Mississippi title. I have no factory GM paperwork with the car. 23,547 miles. $4,250. March 1, 2014.
